چکیده
This paper summarizes and discusses findings on compatibility of the forthcoming DRM mode E into classical VHF FM sound broadcasting. The results are based on theoretical considerations, lab measurements, field trials and radio network planning exercises. In addition, the status of the ongoing work towards a comprehensive DRM mode E coverage study including first results hereof are given.

Report Itu-r Bs.1203-1* Digital Sound Broadcasting to Vehicular, Portable and Fixed Receivers Using Terrestrial Transmitters in the Uhf/vhf Bands
Digital techniques have been used in sound programme production and transmission by some broadcasters for many years now, and more recently have become cheap enough to be introduced into the domestic consumer market, leading to wider public appreciation of high-quality sound, albeit via non-broadcast digital media. At the same time, there is rapidly growing congestion in the VHF/FM radio bands ...
متن کاملDRM+, a perfect complement to DAB/DAB+ in VHF band III
Technical investigations suggest that DRM+ is a suitable candidate for the transition from analogue FM to digital broadcasting in VHF band II (87.5 108.0 MHz) in Europe [2]. Unfortunately, there are mainly three major problems to solve: 1. VHF band II is historically defined for the use of analogue FM sound broadcasting, and, it is – as such – extensively used in Europe; 2. the lack of agreed c...
متن کاملInterleaving IBOC Signals for a Digital HD Radio Multiplex
With increased saturation of the VHF band II used for FM, few frequencies are available for new radio stations in many markets. This paper describes the benefits of using the In Band On Channel (IBOC) signal in an all-digital configuration to boost the number of effective audio services in the FM band. A new method of creating an all-digital IBOC signal configuration is described. Multiple inst...
متن کاملEvaluation of Prediction Accuracy for the Longley-rice Model in the Fm and Tv Bands
Accurate geographical coverage predictions maps for FM and TV are needed for channel and frequency allocations and in order to avoid unwanted interferences. The Longley-Rice model has been used for this purpose over the last four decades and still being used almost exclusively by the FCC in the United States. In this work a comparison is presented between the relative accuracy of this model in ...
متن کاملEMC 2006 - 18th International Wroclaw Symposium and Exhibition
This paper describes a method for airborne evaluation and verification of the antenna patterns of broadcasting stations. Although it is intended for governmental institutions and broadcasters it may be also of interest to anyone who wants to evaluate large radiating structures. An airborne measurement to investigate the properties of the structure in all dimensions is needed. For complicated la...
